Announcing The Civilians’ 2025-26 R&D Group, Finalists, and Semi-Finalists

Get to know the artists who will be a part of this year's R&D group, along with our amazing finalists and semi-finalists!

To borrow a phrase from R&D group alum Jackie Sibblies Drury, “we are proud to present” The Civilians’ thirteenth annual R&D Group!

Each year, a group of writers, composers, directors, and multi-disciplinary artists put their curiosity to work–and assumptions aside–as they create investigative theater projects. Led by Resident Dramaturg Phoebe Corde, the group meets regularly to share their discoveries and offer feedback on each other’s projects. The process culminates in the FINDINGS Series, a works-in-progress reading series that takes place in the summer.

The members of The Civilians’ 2025-26 R&D Group are: Jason Aguirre, Andromache Chalfant, HyoJeong Choi, Nazareth Hassan, Jesse Jae Hoon, Jeanine Oleson, and Adam J. Rineer.

The artists in the 2025-26 R&D cohort are puzzle solvers and geographers of humanity. With care and precision, they piece together histories of emotional and physical displacement, making maps to places yet uncharted. We can’t wait to see what they create together. You can find out more about these artists and the projects they’ll be developing on The Civilians R&D Group page.
